My comments on the ambitions of Mr Wyclef Jean and Mr Francois...

My comments on the ambitions of Mr Wyclef Jean and Mr Francois Turnier to become president of Haiti are in no way indicative of my being critical or disapproving of them. I am sure their popularity and their fundraising to lift haitians from the morass of the post earthquake are more than enough to propel them to a landslide victory at the poll.However, to point out that likewise them, the fathers of indepence were not politicians and were capable to govern do not tell the whole story.

First of all, Toussaint Louverture, the architect of independence, had not had the opportunity to accomplish independence for Haiti.

He was arrested by the French, taken to France where he died in prison in solitary confinement.

The other generals who were left behind had to take up the mantle and achieved independence for Haiti.Jean Jaques Dessaline was elected emperor and the other generals: Alexandre Petion, Jean Pierre Boyea And Henri Christophe were his aides de camp.However, Because of greed for power, Dessaline was assassinated at Pont-Rouge in accordance to a plot concocted by the other generals.

After the successful conclusion of the plot, Henri Christophe elected himself as king.Nevertheless, the greed for for power, once more raised its ugly, the two mullatoes; Alexandre Petion and Jean Pierre Boyea dcided to break away from Christophe rules; hence, Haiti became divided into three republics; La republic du nord, ruled by Henri Christophe, La republique du sud ruled by Jean Pierre boyea and La republique de Louest ruled by Alexandre Petion.

From the foregoing above, there surely emerge a pattern of the political ideology of Haiti- greed for power is the accepted norm.
However, nowadays, the title of president is just a figure head;whoever is elected president has to chose his cabinet to guide him and advise him in his decision making.Nonetheless, will the men he chooses be a hundred percent behind him or will they have their own agenda to get rich quick and betray the president's trust.Will the president elect, infantile in politics in his politicalknowledge, be able to discern the diabolical machination of his cabinet and be able to counteract them. Will the president, because of his overwhelming victory at the poll, adhere to the democratical process set out by the constitution and allow discenting voices- the senate- to criticise his governance.

These are question to be asked.Howver, all in all, I am 100% behind those new men and wholeheartedly endorse them.
