Montreal International Black Film Festival Kicks Off Sep 22 2011

What started out as the Montreal Haitian Film Festival is now at it its seventh year as the Montreal International Black Film Festival (MIBFF). This year, it will be running from September 22 to October 2 2011.

Founded by Haitian actress Fabienne Colas, the Montreal International Black Film Festival is set out to audiences the most beautiful and the most amazing new Black films, while creating a space to debate major cultural, social and socio-economic issues.

This year, according to a MIBFF press release, festival-goers can look forward to a dazzling selection of films being screened by this most daring Film Festival.

The 125 films will be grouped under the following 10 themes:

  1. Drama/Action/Violence
  2. Art/Poetry/Music
  3. Comedy
  4. Haiti
  5. History/Traditions/Politics,
  6. Immigration/Segregation,
  7. Human Conditions,
  8. Animation,
  9. Homosexuality and, lastly,
  10. Slavery
