Defamation of Character Is Affecting Our Haitian Stars

This has been happening on and off, right here on the Belfim message board, and on a radio program whose only content seems to be who is sleeping with whom.

We are not going to mention the actor's name or the radio program because, really, it is not our intention turn this web site into a the Haitian National Inquirer.

We have been receiving phone calls about actors who have been tested for STDs and would like us to report the results to you, our readers.

All we have to say is:

1) It is not our intention to lower our standards to the "he said, she said" level that other "so called" media out there are doing. While this is no more than a comedy show, some people take it seriously and actually think it's news.

2) We are not aware of anyone alive and listed on this site, belfim.com, who is infected with HIV/AIDS or any other sexually transmitted diseases. It is not our business, and we do not intend to make it our business.

What is Defamation of Character?

You may call it "Pale Moun Mal" in your native country of Haiti, mine too, and there is probably no legal punishment for it there but... There should be... We all know that your tongue is the only weapon you need to overthrow the Haitian President and put Haiti in a state of Chaos.

There are other weapons in Haiti but, My GOD is this one effective!

In the United States of America, it's called "Defamation of Character."

The bad news is, it is not easy to prove defamation of character because "Freedom of speech" is protected and guaranteed by the First Amendment.

But...

Even with freedom of speech in the USA, you can't yell "Fire" in a movie theater or "Bomb" in an airport and if you say "I KNOW Jean has AIDS," then you better be ready to prove it in court.

If you are a public figure and you believe that someone is trying to ruin your career by stating FACTS about you that is untrue, that is considered "Defamation of Character." and it is a subject matter for the courts, not Belfim.

There's nothing we can do here to help you.

If you are doing it to somebody, make sure you can prove it or you could be in big trouble with the law.
