Reply to African Movies Low Self-Esteem Post

I agree with most of you points.

However, I do not feel that you are accurately viewing this issue with an unbiased eye. Perhaps your noted reasons hold their place as to why Haitians prefer foreign films.

If so, it is in insignificant piece of the puzzle.

Let's be honest.

When one compares most (a mere generalization here) Haitian movies with African movies, you see a lack of deep story line/plot, decent acting skill, and moral to the story.

ALso, many haitian movies mix too much French with creole.

That alone discourages many Haitian views (especially the Haitian-American youth who never learned French).

The African movies provide deeper meanings to their storylines, as well as decent actors.

Furthermore, they a produced in a manner which encourages all nationalities to enjoy it. Those are what many Haitian movies I've seen lack. I would only love for Haitian movies to be as well produced, and well-received.

I would love to be able to say, "Yes, my people made this".

I one of those people who love to point out intelligent or successful Haitians to others (Haitians & Non-Haitians).

It's not a matter of not liking ourselves, it's mor a matter of quality.

There are too many run-of-the-mill Haitian movies out there.

The producres need to put in more effort (along with the actors) to put out movies with more quality, more substance.

There are some Haitian movies that are wonderful, but not many of them. Ironically, Haitian culture has so many fascinating aspects that a write or producer can draw a storyline from. Just my two cents...
