African Movie is Not the problem, A Haitian Filmmakers Point of View

Recently a filmmaker posted a comment on Belfim about the African movie issue.

It seems that the African movie dilemma is front and center once again in the Haitian movie industry. But is African movies the real problem?

Apparently, there is a young Haitian filmmaker who thinks African movies is just a scapegoat for a more serious problem that Haitian refuse to face as a nation.

"The Low Self Esteem And The Lack Of Self Confidence Problem!"

"Our people love to embrace other cultures," he says, "and projects so their neighbors could think that they know better...what that shows is a lack self-confidence, we as filmmaker, youngsters, musicians are the hope of the country.... we have to be aware that were dealing with a society filled with uneducated people."

"Is It Low Self Esteem?"

  • Do you agree or disagree that Haitians love "Bagay Etranje"? ...But further than that WHY?
  • Do you agree or disagree that "Konpa" se peche, Vodou se peche, BUT "Zouk" ak "Chansonnette Francaise" se mizik clasik.. WHY?

"Know Your Haitian History"

FACT: After Haiti's independence, The Vatican refused to recognize the Haitian government until after they signed a concordat with the Vatican in 1860. This concordat gave the catholic church (racists French-speaking Europeans) the full authority to educate the Haitian people. Not only were our teachers and priests francophone Europeans, their primary focus was on educating the elite, the rich people worth sucking up to.

You think I am kidding? click here and see for yourself.

Question: "We do Haitians believe they are inferior?"

Answer: Because they were educated by racist pigs.

Vodou is not a sin, Vodou is your culture, Creole is not a Patoi, Creole is your language. You have been trained to hate everything that is "Haitian" and everything that is "Creole".

Everyone wants to be like the elite except the elite is living in "La La Land!"

They are still quoting dead French people like "Moliere" and "Victor Hugo" who have been dead for centuries!

How can you appreciate the efforts your Haitian country men when you don't even know you you are?

Big nose, big lips, and nappy hair is not ugly... It's Black!

Go to a Haitian party hosted by a "born again Christian" or some Dum Dum who wants to make you think he is " IT " and I guarantee you, you will hear music by Nana Mouskourrrrrrrri, Celine Dionnnnnnnne, and Errrric Virrrrrrrrrgal but you will never hear a good old fashion System Band, Tropicana it too country, and if there is any Rada or Petro style drum beat in it... "Oh NoooH" that's Vodou... that's hell music... turn it off... turn it off..."

What are you really afraid of?

Who told you to be afraid?

What would you be doing if you were not afraid?

"Back to movies"

We have to be leaders, that is what's expected from us.

We have take charge. We are the future of this country, lets act like it.

I'm not going to seat here in blame Lionel beeper, or anybody else who sells African movies. Their allowed to sell whatever they please in their stores, after all they have to find strategies to eat as much as its killing our industry.

They know the weakness of our [Haitian] people, they used it against them.

So their you have it. the problem is really not African movies, its really not Haitian movies aren't good enough, but our people as a nation.

Haitians do not take pride in their own product, they would much rather embrace another.

If it wasn't African movies, it would probably be Jamaican or Bahamian... anything else... but nothing made by Haitians.
