The Little Haiti Cultural Center, Costs Millions, Underused

Haitian Movie Dyab Baba is playing today at the 270-seat state-of-the-art movie theater inside the $20 Million Little Haiti Cultural Center and there is something we need to discuss... It's important!

There is trend going on in the Haitian Community and we have to fix it.

We scream for attention and, as soon as we get it, we don't know what to do with it.

For many, many, many years, there were complaints that Little Haiti in Miami did not get the attention of the city government.

So finally, after years of waiting, a beautiful park is built but guess what?

Every sports event in the Haitian community happens elsewhere.

After years of waiting, the Little Haiti Cultural center is build, it cost $20 million to build it and after one year since it opened, it remains "severely underused".

I didn't say it... The Miami Herald said it... Here's a quote:

"With its sumptuous murals, light-filled gallery, spacious dance studios and state-of-the-art theater, the gleaming new cultural center in Miami's hardscrabble Little Haiti might be the envy of many a wealthy community.

It should be.

It cost Miami taxpayers around $20 million.

Yet, a year after its understated opening, the city-run Little Haiti Cultural Center is largely unheralded, severely underfunded and sorely underused."

Let me tell you something folks...

If you don't use it they will shut it down

If they shut it down, they will never build in your community again... for generations...

It's amazing to see that while Little Haiti has the highest concentration of Haitians in south Florida some of us believe that, even though there is a $20 million dollar complex built for us to use for social events, even though there is a 270-seat state-of-the-art Movie theater inside of it, we have to go outside of Little Haiti to host an event and we do it because...

NOU RENMEN RAN...

I swear to you, someone said this to me before:

  • Type de Haitien n-ap cheche yo... si nou fe-l la-a... nan ti Ayiti-a la... yo pap vini... ou konprannnnnn?.... se yon seri de moun de HAUTTE class... s-on seri de dokteurrrr... de gro moun... ou konprannnnnn?

You know something...

  • Type de Haitien sa yo... vouzan pou yo... They are deserters anyway... They don't care about you or your community and there are not enough of them to make a difference in your pocket.
  • Type de Haitien sa yo... They only come to your event because you suck up to them and you make them look good.
  • Type de Haitien sa yo... They will never build a cultural center... because they don't have a community... They are not part of the community...
  • Stop sucking up...
  • Provide a service where service is needed.

If I strike a cord inside of you?

Maybe it's time for you to turn back and look at the need of your Haitian community.

You'd be surprised, it actually feels good when you help the people, they will love you for real, and they will die for you.

The Haitian people, your people, when they love you, when they believe in you, they will dig you out of collapsed building with their bare hands.

Isn't that what you crave?

You don't have enough money to buy it. but I'll tell you where you can get if for FREE.

M-ale tande...

Mwen gen lot bagay serye poum al regle

It's not like you're going to listen to me anyway.

My name is Woodring Saint Preux and I said it.
