New Haitian Soap Opera About Life In A Tent City
Under The Skies, Haiti Soap Opera
This new Haitian comedy soap opera is called "Under The Sky"
It is directed by Haitian American Filmmaker Jacques Roc (Pluie D'espoir) and, according to one AP article, it is "filmed in the capital's earthquake survivor camps for the hundreds of thousands of people who live in them."
Movie screens are popping up all over the Tent cities in Port-Au-Prince and people without television are able to see this new Haitian soap opera that is helping them to cope with their new, hopefully, temporary lifestyle.
Under The Sky is about the people in Haiti's Tent Cities, for the people in these tent cities.
Here are some facts we know so far about the series "Under The Skies:"
- Jacques Roc is the director
- Actor and singer Lionel Benjamin (Le Miracle De La Foi) is the star of the series
- Under The Sky is financed by the United Nations
- Each episode cost about $6,000 to produce.
The New York Times said that "Under The Sky" is part of a 16-episode Haitian Television series that is shown three nights a week in 16 camps, along with music videos and Haitian movies
