This type of movie is called a "[[youtubecat/7 short film".

There are many on Belfim and, I have to admit, some of them are pretty interesting.

What is a short film?

A short film is to the full length movies what a short story is to a full-fledged novel. Short films often focus on difficult topics which longer, more commercial films usually avoid.

Take this Haitian short film for example, Soup Joumou (La Soupe au Jiraumon) produced by Hyacinthe Combary, is a short film which won an award at the Jacmel Film Festival.

In less than 6 Minutes, Soup Joumou (La Soupe au Jiraumon), spread a strong message that "L'union Fait La Force." a slogan that Haitians often repeat but seldom practice.

are often popular as first steps into the cinematic art among young filmmakers. This is because short film are cheaper and easier to make, usually don't take very long to produce, and their brevity makes shorts more likely to be watched by financial backers and others who want some demonstration of a filmmaker's ability.

Short film making is also growing in popularity among amateurs and enthusiasts, who are taking advantage of affordable equipment.

Certain websites which encourage the submission of user-created short films, such as YouTube, BritFilms, and Newgrounds have attracted large communities of artists and viewers.

Whether it is or "Long Metrage", Haitians are all trying to move away from our long history of poverty and dirty politics.

If you think you know Haiti by watching news reports on CNN whose only mission is to prove to you one more time that "Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere", I am sorry to say that there is so much you DON'T know about us.

At one point in time these topic were the only topics associated with Haiti. Not anymore!

Haiti has had a music history for more than 50 years now. We have more rythms than any other country in the world, cinema is our new love and it is here to stay.

Vive Le Cinema Haitien!
