Herold Israel, Woodring Saint Preux

While in Miami this past weekend, I decided to visit Haitian filmmaker Herold Israel.

After he gave me the address he told me to live my car with the Valet (That's valet parking).

"Whatever" I thought to myself!

Haitians a very sarcastic, we don't usually think much of anybody.

When I arrived in Bal Harbour, I stopped my car right in front of the apartment complex and my brother Eddy said "this is not the apartment maybe it's further up". but I decided to stop and ask for directions anyway.

"This is the place", said the young man in the white shirt, "Please leave the car with me, Sir, and be sure to stop at the front desk."

"How you Sir," said the young security guard at the front desk.

"I am here to see Mr. Herold Israel, apartment XYZ."

"One moment sir," the young security guard replied. then he picked up his phone: "Hi, Mr. Saint Preux is here to see you should I let him up?"...

Need I say more?

We hung out with Herold for a while, screening a new movie that he is working on while drinking champagne. We had a wonderful time there while enjoying the beautiful view of the Ocean from his private porch.

We grow up in a community where we fail to glamorize our stars. We belittle people. We do not want them to think that "Li Se Yon Afè" (he is somebody), so we never admit the fact that a person is stepping up in his lifestyle.

As Haitian people, we are quicker to say "Ki sa misye panse li ye?" (who does he think he is?) than to say "I want to be like him".

Fortunately, that's the OLD Haitian mentality. Woodring Saint Preux and Belfim is here burn this new positive mentality in the minds of the younger generation.

Herold, My friend, you make me want to step-up my lifestyle a little. I'm taking golf lessons next week. Thank you my friend!
