The purpose of a movie is not to be a touristic advertisement or to make the promotion of a country or town. It can at times do that but there is no obligation.

On the other end some movies are based on reality and when reality is dirty, ugly, sad or violent, there is no other option but showing it the way it is. Actually in the history of cinema many of the best movies did show a not-so-great reality being it war, slavery or poverty.

So my usual answer to those who complain about seeing in movies the reality they most likely also contributed to create is to work at changing this not-so-good reality.

Then if it happens to show up again in some movies you will be able to call it history.
