It is called "HAITIAN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF FILMMAKERS", a non-profit organization set up for Haitian filmmakers and Filmmakers of Haitian decent

The first meeting was held on Monday April 6, 2009 in Florida.

The mission of that association is to promote and educate Haitian filmmakers in the US.

Membership is open only to Haitian movie producers and/or directors. In order to join Haitian American Association Of Filmmakers, the 1st requirement is that you must have already produced or directed a movie.

As their first big project, the HAAF is organizing the 1st South Florida Haitian Film Festival which will be held in September of this year.

This festival is open to all filmmakers, whether or not you are a member of HAAF or not.

Also in the planning is the association's first convention which will be held in Orlando in April of next year.

Many benefits are in the works as part of the association's mission such as

  • Training for its members at well-known film studios,
  • Legal representations against piracy,
  • Group health insurance,
  • Production and distribution support
  • And many more.

Raynald Delerme has been voted President and we wish him the best of luck.

On a personal note:

We applaud all the initiatives that are being taken to restructure the Haitian movie industry (Bellywood) but one thing that seems to accompany every initiative taken amongst Haitians is the pessimism that "It will never work" instead of the optimism to make it work.

Even when the idea or initiative will benefit the whole, the individual, a pessimist by default, refuses to let go of his/her negative thoughts and begins to preach against the idea instead of embracing it.

You know what I am talking about?

Whenever a group of people get together for one common purpose it is always a good idea as long as each and every person can positively answer that selfish question we always ask: "what's in it for me"

"Chak Koukou Klere Pou Je-w" may work for the Koukous but history tells us that it doesn't work for Haitians.

Best of luck to this new organization and we hope to hear nothing but great things about it in the future.

I am Woodring Saint Preux and I said it.
