Gregory Bastien Biography

Growing up on the Caribbean Island of Haiti, a young Gregory Bastien only day dreamed about the possibility of becoming a Hollywood Actor or American Television Star. Twenty years later, he has achieved both and more, becoming an accomplished Movie, Television and Theater Actor.

Growing up on an impoverished Island, in his birthplace of Cap Haitian owning a Television or going to the movies was a luxury few could afford. Gregory became exposed to television during his early years and was immediately transfixed spending the majority of his free time watching television. Quickly Gregory became absorbed by the actors and the characters they would play and he began to imitate and repeat what these actors would say and do when alone and in front of family who provided him with an eager audience....Gregory Bastien the Actor was born.

At the age of 11, Gregory moved to America and lived with his father in Brooklyn New York. The opportunity to pursue what until then had only been an unrealistic dream, presented itself when he enrolled in his first acting class while at High School. His teachers were blown away by his natural talent and ability to become immersed in the challenging roles they gave him, and he was encouraged to take more acting classes. Working in a movie theater during these formative years only further fuelled his desires and Gregory began taking formal acting classes at top acting schools in both New York City and Los Angeles.

His acting style has been described by his contemporaries as 'natural', and this 'naturally talented' young actor has been featured in a number of impressive projects including big budget Hollywood Movies, Independent Films, Television and Theater projects.

To name but a few, Gregory was a reoccurring guest star on one of televisions hottest soap opera's, ABC's 'One Life to Live'(2001- 2004), he also guest starred in the hugely popular HBO Original Series 'OZ' (2003). His movie credits include a featured role in the remake of the 1970's classic 'Shaft' (2000), directed by John Singleton starring Samuel L. Jackson and Vanessa L. Williams. Gregory also featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Bad Boys II (2004), directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer where he played a ruthless Haitian Gang member alongside A-list actors Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. Theatre projects have included lead roles in the thought provoking and intense production of 'The Meeting - a dialogue between Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X' where Gregory played the role of Dr. King. Gregory also played the lead role of Conrad, a 22 year old heroine addict in the production of 'Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie'.

To watch Gregory act is to witness a genuine talent and a young man who immerses himself in his roles with passion, intensity and authenticity, important ingredients for a world-class performance. His favorite roles are meaningful ones that have depth as he enjoys the process of research and studying as much as the acting.

Gregory's draws his inspiration from sources as diverse as the professional and personal journey of the legendary Sydney Portier, who he admires for overcoming the challenges of building a career during the difficult years of the Civil Rights Movement. Gregory also draws inspiration from the struggle and triumphs of Haiti and the Haitian people both past and present.

Having lived and worked in both Los Angeles and New York, Gregory currently resides in New York City and is a much sought after commodity on the New York theater scene. He is currently working on his one-man show, which he plans to open in New York in late 2006.
