Let S Try To Understand All Sides To It - December 16 2008, 11:53 AM

i agree with everything being said so far. I dont know exactly how to fix this because deep down we, haitians, dont do so good with changes but there are quite a few pointers.

It is true that we tend to honor other nations more than our own, there is a big lack of support when it comes to our artists.

Yes, we have people that are working hard and at the end of the day get nothing out of it. When we see a haitian star in our community we look at them as if they are nothing, unappreciated, but lets go back to Van Vicker i am very surprised that noone kissed his feet yet, that's how much praises he gets in our community.

It's totally find to show respect to other artists because that's how we encourage them to keep pushing but neglecting our own just makes us look real bad. I was following a session of interview with Van in Miami, and he was told how haitians admire african's work and he was asked how can we have the same thing in africa...his response hurt me a lot...he said "it's not his fault if we dont watch our own movies but love his" ouchhh and he proceeded " he cant just bring haitian movies to africans unless he is part of it because they wont care about it" ouchhh again.

i cant recall Reginald Lubin, Jean Gardy, Smoye et autres being a reason why haitians watch so much african movies but heck with that because everyone in the room applauded their butts off as if they see nothing wrong with that satement.

But Van is an actor just like Reginald, Smoye so he gets props cuz he is talented.

Now to our haitian producers, i can understand why people love african movies, they dont just sit there and make up a story about a man, a woman, sex and food. Their stories are deep, some make you laugh, some make you cry and some you can relate to even though they tend to be repetitive but you see their culture trough their movies.

We have good film makers i adore Reginald's works, Jean Gardy and so on but like Reginald said there are no supports and they cant do it alone.

Then we have the kind of wanna be producers that take a camera and have anyone satnd in front it and later trying to sell it and demands respect.

I rather us have 5 haitian movies oput there but when you sit down and look at it, you get something out of it instead of having 100 and yon pa vo lot. Our producers need to think more before calling something they have a script.

moun nan kouche hier soir li reve madan voisin an deja li gentan fe on movie, c'est pas serieux.

Also, stop putting a bunch of people that have no idea about acting in a movie, talent is talent but yo besoin formation tou. then originality, it'd be great if we watching a movie then we see Haiti trough the movie, meaning our culture, tradition etc..sispan pale fo angle kap fe moun ri sou nou pi nou panse its funny..haitians complains about movies in french meanwhile that's our 2nd official language yo pito pale vie anglais, like Reginald said it's not the language so stop blaming movies that arent in english for our blockage because we can always do bubtitles in other languages, paske movie ki fet en espagnol, indian dialect or whatever that we still comprehend it's cuz of that...l'essentiel we need better productions than what we have now, better stories and determined actors, you werent born an actor but if you are in the business you better learn and better yourselves.

Rather producers get together and produce 1 master piece instead of 10 people coming out with 1 thing with no story, no meaning at all...and please if we gonna support lets support, stop buying copies...
