The Language of Cinema 2

Of course, some can say that it is the stories and the acting that are the cause for any film to become successful, and I would agree with that. But until Haitian films are dedicated entirely to English, with a little bit of Creole mixed in, Haitian Cinema will not rise to the level of International status that Hollywood, Bollywood, and now Nollywood have grown to.

The majority of Haitian Movies that are released do not even offer subtitles, which is standard procedure for all Non-English speaking movies.

What about Haitian Americans born in the US who do not speak much Creole, do the producers of these Haitian movies choose to neglect all these possible buyers?

That is not good business.

Haitian Cinema has the potential to become a new Hollywood, but the first step must be to connect to a wider audience by changing the language.

English is the language of Cinema, and always has been. Even in the earliest of films called "talkies", the intertitles were written in English.

Just because a Haitian movie is filmed in English doesn't mean it is less Haitian, on the contrary, I tell you it is more Haitian! The main thing that makes a movie Haitian is not the Creole, it is the people that act in the movie and create the movie that have Haitian blood flowing in their veins, or just happen to love Haiti such as Van Vicker and is therefore Haitian in spirit.

Making Haitian movies in English is 100% Haitian because we can still tell our stories, with our people, about our country and in our country.

But unless we start filming our movies in English, hence, the world will not understand us and Haitian Cinema will not gain universal appeal.

So let us stop being selfish, because Haitian Movies should not just be for Haitians but for everyone!
